Elvis picked up his first pair of clippers at 18 years old and never looked back. After barber college, he planted himself right on Broadway Street and opened Woody's in 1971 — and he's been there ever since.
Over five decades, senators, governors, police chiefs, and judges have sat in that chair. But what Elvis is most proud of? The poster boards on the wall covered with photos of children who are now grown adults — still coming back for their cuts, and now bringing their own kids.

Elvis's wife worked alongside him for years at Woody's before her career in public service took off. "We got married and she had to find another job," Elvis says with a laugh.
For 30 years, Mr. Joe White shined shoes inside Woody's — riding his bicycle to work every single day without fail. He became such a beloved part of the community that the city named Mr. Joe White Boulevard in his honor. His original shoe shine chair and memorabilia are still inside the shop today.
